Geographic Information Systems
An integrated information management system (IIMS) for GIS and data management at the national level for the key implementing government organization; Conservation Environment Protection Authority (CEPA) is crucial for the wise use, management and conservation of PNG’s rich biodiversity. The project in collaboration with CEPA aims to enhance and improving the CEPA’s information collection, storage, use and data management systems.
The CEPA IIMS development is a combination of GIS, database and monitoring tool that enables CEPA to track the organization’s performance against organizations strategic management plans(s). The information system will also provide timely information to the public and for the public to provide timely feedback to CEPA. The IIMS is a decision and management tool that will allow transparency, accountability and collaboration between government departments in the planning and decision-making processes. The IIMS shall be utilized to monitor and enforce environmental management activities against set targets. As much as possible, biophysical information collected from the fields will be uploaded onto the IIMS in real time.
